Privacy notice

Draft, not yet reviewed by counsel.

This notice explains, in plain words, what Smarkle keeps about you on this website, why, for how long, and how to have it deleted. It covers this website and its waitlist only. Families who are welcomed into Smarkle get a separate notice for the app itself.

Five people sharing supper at a round table in front of an open balcony window in warm evening light, one reading from a picture book.

At a glance

  • Your answers stay with you

The assessment, your results, your seven-day practice and the sample family space run in your own browser. Nothing from them is sent to us.

  • Email only if you choose

Only one thing ever sends anything: if you choose to give us your email afterward. Never your individual answers.

  • Nothing about children

We never collect anything about children, and no one is ever scored by name.

  • No ads, no trackers

No third-party analytics and no cookies for visitors. Our emails contain no tracking pixels.

  • Delete everything, any time

Every email has a link to delete everything we hold about you, straight away and for good.

  • Sharing stays between you

A comparison link carries only your three scores, and a first name if you add one. It never reaches us; the person you send it to can see them.

A summary of the notice below. The notice itself is what counts.

The short version

  • The assessment, your results, your seven-day practice and the sample family space all run in your own browser. Nothing from them is sent to us.
  • Only one thing ever sends anything: if you choose to give us your email afterward.
  • If you do, we keep as little as we can: your email, a first name if you give one, your country, your scores and a few answers about your family's shape. Never your individual answers.
  • We never collect anything about children, and no one is ever scored by name.
  • There are no ads, no trackers and no third-party analytics, on the site or in our emails.
  • Every email has a link to delete everything we hold about you, straight away and for good.

Who this is for

The website and waitlist are for adults. To join, you confirm that you're 18 or older and a parent or guardian in your family. Nothing on this site is aimed at children, and we don't knowingly collect anything from or about a child.

We're starting with families in the United States. If you join from another country, we keep your entry for later and write when we open where you live.

The assessment, your results and your practice

The Family Flourishing Assessment is scored in your own browser. Your answers, your results and your progress through the seven-day practice are kept in this browser's own storage on your device, so you can come back to them. They are not sent to us, and we can't see them.

To remove them, clear this site's data in your browser's settings. A result saved in one browser won't appear on another device.

If you share a comparison link with someone in your family, it carries only your three dimension scores, and a first name if you add one, in the part of the link (after the "#") that browsers never send to our server. We never receive it; the person you send it to can see what it carries.

The assessment asks about your family as a whole. It never asks for anyone's name, and it doesn't score or compare any person, child or adult.

The sample family space

The sample family space shows a fictional family with example data. Anything you change there, such as editing the vision or adding an issue, is kept only in this browser's own storage. Nothing is sent to us.

What we count

We keep daily totals of how many times a few steps were reached, such as the home page being opened or the assessment being started and finished. Those totals have no names, addresses or identifiers of any kind attached. They're just counts.

What we keep if you choose to give us your email

  • Your email address (one adult). To confirm your place, send your result, and invite you when a cohort opens.
  • Your first name, if you give it. So our emails can say hello.
  • Your country. To follow the privacy law that applies to you, and to plan when cohorts open.
  • Your overall score, your three dimension scores (connection, formation and culture) and the band your overall score falls in. For your report email and for choosing each cohort. Not your individual answers.
  • Your answers about your family's shape: how many households, roughly how many people, who'd set it up, what matters most and when you'd like to start. For choosing each cohort.
  • How you heard about us, and whether you came through a friend's link or as a guest in another family's space. To learn where families find us, and to give those families priority within their fit.
  • Your consent: the version of the wording you agreed to, when you agreed, when you confirmed your email, and that you confirmed you're 18 or older. To prove you asked to hear from us.
  • Your answer to "what would make it a win", if you give one. A person reads it. We ask you not to include names, and we delete it as soon as the decision on your cohort is made.
  • A log of which emails we've sent you, and when. To avoid sending the same one twice and to respect your choices. The log doesn't include what the email said. A copy of each email is kept only long enough to deliver it: it's deleted as soon as it's sent, and never kept longer than seven days.

If you tick any "must-have" features we haven't built yet, we use your answer only to show you an honest result. We don't keep it with your entry; we add one to an anonymous daily count.

What we never keep

  • Anything about your children: names, ages, how many, schools or photos. There's no place on the waitlist that could hold them.
  • Your individual assessment answers, your progress through the seven-day practice, or anything you do in the sample family space.
  • Your IP address. Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks that a person rather than a bot is joining, sees it for that check. We use a scrambled version only in memory, for a day at most, to slow down abuse, and never store it.
  • Your device, browser fingerprint or location below your country.
  • Cookies. The site sets none for visitors: no tracking cookies, no advertising cookies, none at all. (Your results and the sample family space use your browser's own storage instead, which stays on your device and is never sent to us.)
  • Anything for advertisers. We don't sell, rent or share your details, and we never will.

Who else is involved

Cloudflare hosts this website, stores the waitlist and sends our emails. Cloudflare Turnstile appears on the join form to keep bots out. No other company receives your details. Our emails contain no tracking pixels and no rewritten links.

How long we keep it

  1. If you don't confirm your email, we delete your entry after seven days.
  2. While you're on the waitlist, we keep your entry until you're welcomed, you leave, or you ask us to delete it.
  3. If we haven't heard from you in twelve months, we send one "still interested?" email. To keep your place, open its link and press the button on the page, or just reply. If we don't hear from you within thirty days, we delete your entry.
  4. If you asked us to tell you when something's ready, or we're not yet open in your country, we send you only the email to confirm your address, the yearly check above, and the news you asked for. No report, no updates, nothing else. We keep your entry only while you still want to hear from us, under the same twelve-month rule.
  5. If you weren't chosen for a cohort, we keep your place for the next one, and delete your "what would make it a win" answer at that decision.
  6. If you answer an invitation with "no thanks, delete my details", we delete your entry straight away.
  7. If your family accepts a place, your scores, your answers about your family's shape and any "win" answer are folded straight away into averages for the whole cohort, and are no longer kept as yours. We keep your email and first name a little longer, to send your welcome and to check in after thirty, sixty and ninety days. After that they're removed from the waitlist, which keeps only that your family joined, which cohort, and the dates. Inside Smarkle, your email lives in your family's own private space.

Deleting your data

Every email we send has a "remove me and delete my data" link. It opens a page with a button, so that an email scanner opening the link can't delete anything by mistake. Press the button and your entry, and everything kept with it, is deleted straight away. We keep only a count that one entry was deleted, with nothing about you.

If you'd like a copy of what we hold, or have any question about it, reply to any email from us and a person will answer.

Changes to this notice

If we change what we keep or why, we'll update this notice and its version, and tell everyone on the waitlist by email before the change applies to them.
