Questions families ask

Honest answers, before you begin

What parents most want to know about Smarkle: the method, the place of faith, the family space, privacy, and how founding families join. Each answer is short, with a link to read more.

A mother, father and two children gather at the kitchen table around an open notebook, smiling as they talk.

The method

6 questions

What is Smarkle, in a sentence or two?

A way for a family to build its shared life on purpose: a vision plain enough to say at dinner, rhythms that carry it into the week, a kind way through friction, and honest reflection. A guide walks beside you, and a private family space holds it all.

Read the method
How much time will it take?

Less than you might fear, and less as time goes on. Begin with one rhythm: one kept faithfully beats five that fade. Smarkle succeeds when your family needs less of it.

How the structure steps back
Is it all family meetings?

No. Not every gathering should be a meeting. Families gather three ways, to plan, to work shoulder to shoulder and to celebrate, and keep one day apart for rest. Most friction resolves in passing, without a meeting at all.

Rhythms and gatherings
Will it fit our family's shape?

We won't assume one shape fits every family. One home or several, blended, single-parent or multigenerational: the principles are shared, and how they're lived belongs to each family.

The principles
Do you score or rank families, or children?

No. The assessment looks at your family as a whole and never asks for anyone's name. Reflection is for learning and adjusting, never for ranking anyone, and in the family space children are never compared with each other.

What we won't do
Is this therapy or counselling?

No. Guides aren't licensed therapists, and we won't stand in for a pastor, counselor or doctor. If anyone is unsafe, their safety comes first, and we'll help you find the right care.

What we believe

4 questions

Is this a religious program?

It isn't a church, and no one will ask what you believe. But we won't pretend faith is an add-on. It runs all the way through Smarkle, because it runs through the family that built it: in meals and work, worship side by side, and a day of rest each week. Where a practice comes from scripture, we say so, and show it.

Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it.

Psalm 127:1
Where it starts
Do we have to share your beliefs?

Nothing asks what you believe, and nothing scores faith, devotion or love. You'll find scripture quoted plainly on these pages, because we'd rather you see it from the start than be surprised later. Take what serves your family.

What we won't do
How do scripture and research fit together?

Many of these ideas are as old as scripture. And every rule wears its true label: scripture, counsel, tradition, family judgment, preference, or honest not-knowing.

Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.

1 Thessalonians 5:21
Every rule wears its true label
Is there a Sabbath?

Yes. One day a week set apart for rest, worship and family: church together, a slower meal, an afternoon with grandparents. Nothing to organize and nothing to fix.

The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath.

Mark 2:27
Plan, work, celebrate, and rest

The family space

5 questions

What is the family space?

A private place that belongs to your family: your rhythms and gatherings, an issues board, a Today view, your photographs, and a choice of who sees each thing. You can explore a sample family now. It's fictional, and anything you change in the sample stays in your own browser.

Open the sample family space
Do we need to download an app?

No. Smarkle runs in the browser and adds to your home screen like an app, on the phones and computers you already have.

See it on phone and computer
Can it go on a screen in our kitchen?

Yes. A parent pairs a screen with a one-time code, and it shows the family's day: events, whose turn it is, chores and approved photographs. It's never in charge of anything, and it never shows what's private.

What a wall screen shows, and never shows
Do our children need phones or accounts?

No. A child opens their own day on a family screen with their picture and a PIN you set. No phone, no email address, no password.

What isn't built yet?

Some things families ask for: budgeting linked to bank accounts, an App Store app, an AI assistant, smart-home control, and coordinating between two parents' separate homes. We'd rather say so plainly than have you find out later.

5 questions

Who can see what we put in the family space?

Your family, in the circles you choose. Each home sees its own. What's private to one person, or to a couple, stays with them, and no administrator can open it. Children are the one exception: a child's parents can see their plan, and a young child's messages too.

How your family space protects people
Do you sell our data, or show ads?

No. There are no ads, no trackers and no third-party analytics, on this site, in our emails or in the family space. We don't sell your details, and we never will.

What we never do
What happens to my assessment answers?

They're scored in your own browser and kept in this browser tab, which forgets them when you close it. They aren't sent to us, and we can't see them. If you choose to give us your email, we keep it with your scores, your first name if you give one, your country, your answers about your family's shape and any note you write. Never your individual answers.

The privacy notice
What do you keep about our children?

On this website, we ask nothing about your children; please leave their names out of the optional note. In the family space, what your family adds is kept for your family, with extra care around children, and no child is ever scored.

Joining and founding families

5 questions

What is a founding family?

Founding families are the first families we guide, a few at a time. They use Smarkle in ordinary life and help shape what comes next.

Founding families
How do we begin?

Start with the assessment. It takes about 5 minutes, needs no email, and you'll see your family's strengths whatever you decide. If Smarkle feels right afterwards, you can ask to join the founding families from your results.

Discover your family's strengths
What does it cost?

It depends on your family: how many households take part, how much time you spend with your guide, and how much happens in person. We set it out plainly, with examples, on one page.

See pricing
Who are the guides?

The people who founded Smarkle and built its method with their own large family.

Read how it began
Do you work with families outside the United States?

Not yet. We're starting with families in the United States. If you join from elsewhere, we keep your entry and write when we open where you live.

What could your family become?

The first step is seeing where you are. In a few minutes, find what's already strong, where there's room to grow, and one small practice to try this week. Your results are yours.
